Tuscany Region approves the Smart Specialisation Strategy

The Regional Smart Specialisation Strategy (SSS) has been approved by Tuscany Regional Council.

The concept of the Smart Specialisation Strategy (SSS) has been developed in Europe to indicate those flexible and dynamic innovation strategies, adopted by single Regions but assessed at national and European level, through the Smart Specialisation Platform.

The development of regional and innovation strategies is an “ ex-ante” condition for the use of community resources, and on smart specialisation will be channelled resources from the Structural Funds for more than 750 million.

The Region adopted the final document after a long consultation phase, involving the territory, relevant stakeholders and with external experts’ support.

The strategy focuses on two main areas:

  • support for research and development (priority: ICT and photonics, intelligent factory, chemistry and nanotechnology)
  • support innovation (support for innovation processes, supporting the creation of innovative start-ups, energy efficiency and renewable)
