STEP (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform) is an initiative of the European Commission established by Regulation (EU) 2024/795, which entered into force on March 1, 2024. The platform aims to coordinate and strengthen European investment in strategic technologies in the digital, green (clean technologies), and biotech sectors.
Tuscany Region has integrated the STEP platform into its 2021-2027 ERDF Regional Programme, introducing specific measures to promote strategic technologies and support the competitiveness of Tuscan businesses.
It starts with the 2025 edition of the Research & Development calls for proposals, scheduled to open on November 17, for individual or cooperation projects between MSMEs (call 2) and large enterprises (call 1) – initial budget of €20 million, to be subsequently increased up to €70 million.
STEP projects will benefit from an additional bonus score and a 5% increase in aid intensity.
Further measures are planned in the near future for investments in innovation and productive investments for companies in the STEP field (STEP Innovation call for proposals).
