The project MAE – Moving towards AErospace – was funded in the framework of the first call for proposals of Interreg Europe 2021-2027. It lasts 4 years, from 1 March 2023 and is led by CISE – Centre for Innovation and Economic Development(Italy).

MAE brings together 8 partners from 7 countries:

  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Czech Republic
  • Ireland
  • Romania

Objective of the project
MAE starts from the assumption that green growth policies and approaches put certain industries at risk, with automotive being a case in point. In order to avoid negative repercussions on workers and SMEs, a sustainable and innovative transformation of industrial value chains, linked to future-oriented manufacturing potential, is necessary. The policy level must understand how SMEs from industrial segments facing possible obsolescence can achieve a new role in expanding sectors and support them in the process.

In this context, MAE helps policy makers and stakeholders to co-build ecosystems for a responsible transition of industrial segments facing near-future obsolescence towards the future oriented, aerospace sector.

Thanks to interregional learning and to a responsible innovation approach, MAE partners cooperate for:

  • Understanding the role of territorial stakeholders in value chains and innovation ecosystems and in multilevel governance for effective transformation;
  • Identifying systemic elements that must be present / created and support measures for product and process innovation in SMEs;
  • Build capacity among public authorities and stakeholders to support the transition and attract investments;
  • Improve and monitor local policies that can support the transition.
