Priority: Greener MED

Budget: 2,501,581.50€

TREASURE –Testing novel environmental quality measures in and around Euro-MED ports– is a project funded in the framework of the second call for proposals of Interreg Euro-Med.

TREASURE reunites 11 partners from 7 different countries:

  • Italy
  • Montenegro
  • Spain
  • Albania
  • France
  • Greece
  • Malta

Objective of the project

TREASURE’s overall objective is to improve environmental quality in and around Mediterranean port areas, by mitigating and reducing sediment and water pollution.

Port areas become both the final accumulation site for chemicals from anthropic activities and a cause of pollution, which represents a significant environmental risk for marine biodiversity, surrounding areas and a risk to human health.

TREASURE thus improves environmental quality in Mediterranean port areas by transnational testing of integrated, multi-stakeholder support environments, merging three multi-disciplinary elements:

– a stakeholder ecosystem to create open pilot laboratories,

– integrated approach to environmental quality assessment,

– experimentation of novel techniques to restore degraded and polluted port areas.

Transnational cooperation is key to achieve TREASURE objectives, both due to the common challenges addressed and to the innovative approach proposed.
