CIBUS is a project funded under the second Interreg Europe 2021–2027 call for proposals. It officially started on 1 April 2024 and will run for four years. The project is led by the Bulgarian Association of Municipal Environmental Experts (BAMEE).

CIBUS brings together 9 partners from 8 countries European countries:

  • Bulgaria
  • Cyprus
  • Portugal
  • Denmark
  • Romania
  • Finland
  • Ireland
  • Belgium

Objective of the project

CIBUS aims to reduce food loss and waste throughout the production and supply chain by enhancing the capacity of public authorities to design, implement, and monitor integrated, cross-sector, and innovation-driven policies.

To achieve this, partners work collaboratively to update and modernise relevant policies, aligning their actions with the recommendations of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste. The project pursues the following specific objectives:

  • Establish multi-stakeholder platforms (both digital and physical) to engage public and private actors, promote knowledge sharing, and identify impactful measures;
  • Strengthen innovation capacity among stakeholders in the food value chain by fostering circularity, cross-sector collaboration, and new market opportunities;
  • Improve data availability, consistency, and transparency, and develop appropriate evaluation frameworks;
  • Develop comprehensive strategies to prevent and reduce food loss and waste, including the valorisation of bio-waste products, and incorporate these strategies into related policy areas.
