95% of Europeans consider important environmental protection

The answer to the question “How much important is protecting the environment to you personally?” has been “Very important” for 53% and “Fairly important” for 42% of European citizens.

These are the results  of the Eurobarometer survey  “Attitudes of European citizens towards the environment “. The research reveals that despite the economic crisis European citizens are still concerned fotr the environment and the the worry is not decreased since 2011.

The investigation has been carried out in 28 Member States between 26 April and  11 May 2014  in order to evaluate citizens perceptions and  behaviours. The interviews, on behalf of the DG Environment of the European Commission have involved 27.998 citizens from different bracket of the population.

95% of them have declared to consider environmental respect very important at the personal level. Most of them consider that more should be done in order to stimulate economic growth through an efficient use of natural resources (79%) and environmental protection in general (74%).
