H2020: SURPRISE project

Resolvo is a partner in the research project SURPRISE – SUper-Resolved comPRessive InStrument in the visible and medium infrared for Earth observation applications. SURPRISE is co-financed by the H2020 programme, under the Earth Observation topic.

SURPRISE officially started on 01 January 2020 and lasts for 36 months. The project, coordinated by CNR IFAC, brings together 8 partners from 4 countries (Italy, Germany, Switzerland and France), among which there are universities, research centres and enterprises.

While Earth Observation data becomes ever more vital to understanding the planet and addressing societal challenges, applications are still limited by revisit time (length of time for the satellite system to be able to observe the same point on Earth) and spatial resolution. In this context, SURPRISE’s main objective is to implement a demonstrator of a super-spectral Earth Observation sensor (payload) with enhanced capability in spatial resolution, on-board data processing and encryption functionalities. By merging two state of the art technologies, SURPRISE will address the challenge of large data processing and of shortening the time needed to extract information from images and generate alarms.

Within the project, Resolvo is involved in communication and dissemination, as leader of the WP “Reaching Society and the Market”. Resolvo is also in charge of developing a methodology for Responsible Research and Innovation, to be applied during all project research and development phases.
